I recently came across an ad on a BDSM-centric site where an individual indicated in the headline that he was looking for a “daytime slave.”

Hm.

I suppose this is either code for a “discreet relationship” or perhaps he has had issues with Vampire or Mogwai slaves and is trying to weed these individuals out.

The ad then went on to express his more specific desires, and he says, and I quote,

Your submission level should be at least a level 5 minimum.

Um.

OK, so I posted this on Twitter and of course the geeks came out of the woodwork to snerk.  But then @phillyeboni rang a dim dusty bell about levels of submission.

A quick Google scan turned up that old gem, that has me rolling in my cubicle.

Awed, Humbled, Thrilled, Amazed, Supported.

My first 24 hours under the title are a blur. Today’s brunch was a great chance to catch up with some of my fellow Ms. SF Leather 2009 contestants, Angel, Mizz Sammy, and my Sergeant at arms, Tracy Wolf, Second Runner Up!  Much respect to Miss Max, who was missed, and who won the Leather Heart Award, as selected by the Ms. SF Leather Class of 2009! Friday, Oct. 16 – Ms. SF Leather Meet & Greet – Emceed by the fabulous Sister Sarah Femme! Meet the contestants and judges! Try to figure out who the MYSTERY JUDGE might be! CA Community Bootblack, Blast will be there to get your leathers in top shape before the contest! Also, there will be a chance for you to submit questions that could be used on stage during the “pop question” portion of the contest! at the SF Eagle, 398 12th St., SF, 8:30pm-10:30pm, Cost: FREE

Saturday, Oct. 17 – Ms. San Francisco Leather Contest – Emceed by the incomparable Queen Cougar, Ms. S.F. Leather ‘93! Enjoy watching our 5 fabulous contestants be put through their paces! The contest evening features speech, pop question, and – everybody’s favorite – Fantasies! Silent Auction! CA Community Bootblack, Blast, available when the doors open and during intermission! Net proceeds will be donated to LYRIC and the Transgender Law Center!

Space is wheelchair accessible, and we will have sign-language interpreters.

Location: The Blue Macaw, 2565 Mission St., SF. Doors open at 5:30pm

Cost: General Admission: $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Please note: seating is limited, and a General Admission ticket does not guarantee a seat. Available seating is first-come, first-served*.

The Blue Macaw is a great, spacious venue with food and full bar available.

Getting There: Near the 24th St/Mission BART stop. Several muni lines run nearby, including the #14 Mission. There is also a nearby parking garage, on 21st St. between Valencia and Mission.

Dear Tribe: My heart is heavy with sorrow, but my thoughts are filled with wonderful memories of a friend to most of us Mr. Marcus Hernandez who passed away, October 8, 2009. During his 38 years as a San Francisco Bay Area reporter and columnist Marcus became the eyes, ears and recorder of much this communities history. His passing is a tremendous loss to both the Leather and Gay and Lesbian community.

November 21, 2009, San Francisco, “the city that he loved and that loved him” will be celebrating his life. Many across the country will not be able to attend this event. But there may still be a way to honor his contributions and legacy that he leaves behind. I am asking our community, to honor his memory by declaring Saturday, November 21, 2009, a Day of Leather Celebration. Where we may be wear your finest leathers or Levis, and do something special to celebrate the life of Marcus Hernandez.. Have an “adult beverage” , a “vitamin “V”, (one of Marcus’ favorite pastimes) share memories, swap stories, pictures, your thoughts and feelings. Perhaps host an event where all this can happen.
