Fat and Happy.
Substantia Jones, photographer and curator of the Adiposivity Project pinged me a while back and we got to chatting about doing a shoot. The stars aligned and we were able to meet and take some pictures.
And then the atmosphere itself aligned for a moment of effulgency heretofore unknown to me in terms of moments captured.
We were on the roof of a FOAF who’d been amenable to the shoot happening at his condo in NYC. We did a few setups and then went up to the roof, with a view of the river and surrounded by Harlem and wrapped in warm breezes. Substantia had only a few shots on the card when the warm breeze suddenly carried huge drops of warm rain down to earth.
I miss warm rain. Se, we don’t get that in San Francisco. And so much came rushing back to me. The smell of rain on a heated sidewalk. The feeling of being wet…and not minding it. All of that so real and so rich and I was so happy to be at HOME and outside and … free.
And this is me in that moment.
And I hope you have moments such as these too.
You look beautiful. And happy!
just caught wind of your blog through feministing. awesome. hands down, best tagline ever.
Yes. I have even had moments like this captured on film. Im happy for that. They serve as reminders when I get down on my luck. The good day are not that far away.
Must Tumble this image.
What an incredible picture. It has an almost ritual/summoning look to it. The question is – are winged monkeys or soot-streaked urban fairies about to land on your shoulders? :)
Brilliant Mollena, I think I’m in love. Just found in your blog the unimaginable intersection of antiracism/womanism/kink/fatlove. I’ve been reading back posts for hours. I hope you know the lives you save just by opening your mouth. I’m thinking about Audre Lorde: “and when we speak we are afraid/our words will not be heard nor welcomed/but when we are silent we are still afraid/so it is better to speak/remembering/we were never meant to survive.”
Thank you, you gorgeous woman.
You know, I may get kicked outta some club for this, but I am not sure which is better, the image I get to see, or the image you describe and I get to feel…
Happy is so very hot.
Mollena I have been following you for about two weeks. I found you on twitter. I have seriously enjoyed your bloggings and tweets. This picture has brought me out into the comments. What an uplifting and amazing pose. Thanks for being in the kink community and spreading that loooooove.
That is such a great picture!! You are beautiful.
YOU LOOK SO BEAUTIFUL IN THIS PIC. I was actually born in San Francisco, so my moving to Las Vegas in 07 has given me Hot Nights. I get to indulge my naive self with regard to where heat comes from when the sun is no longer shining (concrete, I am told) and that I can walk around in nothing more than a sarong and tank at midnight and enjoy heat beneath my feet and the smell of cooked asphalt. You are a treasure to share this sensation with us all and I am blessed by sharing it with you.
